L'Isle sur la Sorgue

Isle sur la Sorgue, nicknamed "Venice of the Comtat", is one of the most attractive cities in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
To visit Isle sur la Sorgue is to take the time, take the time to stroll through its alleys or along its canals, take the time to hunt around for antiques and appreciate art, gastronomy, local crafts. ..
Paradise for lovers of antiques, Isle sur la Sorgue is the largest center in Provence for the professional market of antique dealers and second-hand dealers. Over 300 antique dealers and second-hand dealers are open there all year round, making the city one of the most important European places of antiquity.

According to local tradition, the first inhabitants of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (Insula at the time), in the high Middle Ages were fishermen established in a marshy area in order to escape the invaders, living in huts on stilts. The abundant and regular waters of the Sorgue also provided the driving force necessary for the craft and industry. Water wheels had allowed the installation of wheat mills in the 12th century, then the creation of workshops to process wool and silk. In the 19th century, there were no less than sixty-two water wheels. Today the few remaining wheels give its special cachet to Isle sur la Sorgue and a route is dedicated to them to visit the city in a different way.
